81 On Seeing Clearly On doing What’s Next

EXPERIENCE has taught us that the use of affirmations over time can be instrumental in making change happen.
There are simple exercises that each of us can use to convey a feeling of willingness from our conscious selves¾our egotistical selves¾to our Higher Power.  It is a message that clearly demonstrates our willingness to do whatever is necessary to get healthy.
Not just as an abstract idea, but as an experience.
The concept of subjective and experiential is crucial.

80 On Seeing Clearly-- Simple Truths

EXPERIENCE has taught us that if we have released our pain and faced our fears, searched out and exorcised our demons, then it is important that we know enough to let them go, leave them alone after that.  Don’t go back and play with them.  They are not entrails to be gone through, they are not a part of our identity, they are not who we are, they are simply manifestations of what happened to us.
So many of us treat this process as if it were once dirty laundry but now is clean, so we go out and gather it all back up, thinking we’ve found some lost possessions that need to come home.
They’re not.  They are simply the by-products of what happened. They’re history -- let them go.
They are to be left at the side of the road for our Higher Power to pick up and use or discard as It pleases.

Remember:
You Can’t Make Things Different
By Keeping Them The Same.

79 On Seeing Clearly -- The Order of What’s Next

EXPERIENCE has taught us that we all have this place where we hide. It is a place that we need to move past if we are to heal and if we are to grow.  This healing and growth happen over time, and there does seem to be a universal recipe that needs to be followed in conjunction with a set of events, circumstances, and practices.
·      First, we need to reach past our hiding place and ask for help.
·      Second, we need to find those other souls who have made the journey, at least in part, and join up with them.
·      Third, we need to listen to someone other than ourselves, and do life someone else’s way rather than only our way.
·      Fourth, we must be prepared to follow this new groove for the rest of our lives.  Why? Because falling back on the old ways as soon as we’re feeling better will simply undo all we have done.
