EXPERIENCE has taught us that the helper helps the helped by demonstration only:
·
Not by lecturing.
·
Not by solution
finding.
·
Not by scolding.
·
But simply by
role-modeling clearly, in plain sight, what it is that needs to happen.
No shame, no blame, just interaction, both in the nama
and the rupa - the name and the form.
For it is in the contents of the form, the rupa, that the various
interactions are undertaken. It is here
that the assistance is clearly demonstrated by doing the daily rituals of the
helper. Helpers must simply be themselves, and not try to put on a mask they think
will help the other. The business of being a helper is not an effortful lesson
offered by the martyred ego. It is truly an exercise in being who we were
intended to be.
Finally, it is an exercise in trusting that the
miracle will happen in its own good time, just as it should, and not
necessarily in the fashion that the helper might like to think it should
happen.
